Dr. Schwarzl of Vienna has a look round Mr. Blenkinsop of Leeds

Mr Stanley Blenkinsop, of Leeds, looked incredulously at Dr. Schwarzl. Dr. Schwarzl, of Vienna, looked at Mr. Stanley Blenkinsop with dawning hope and jubilation. Mr Blenkinsop ("Tiny" to his friends) is a director of Leeds United, and in Dr. Schwarzl he saw a possible rival to his claim to be the largest, widest and heaviest football director in the Old World. And Dr Swarzl, who is President of the crack Soccer club, Rapide, of Vienna, looked fondly at Mr Blenkinsop. He knows little English, but one could see him thinking, "Can this country of little meat, produce a figure like Mr Blenkinsop? How we have been deceived!". Mr Blenkinsop weighs more than twenty stones, and has the height to carry it, and Dr Schwarzl in nobility of height and girth looked equally as impressive; even more so, if one counts the flowing lines of the generous black homberg that graces a leonine head. If these directors are a portent, tomorow night's game at Elland Road between Leeds United and Rapide is a draw already. This afternoon this Viennese team of stars and internationals will train at Elland Road in preparation for tomorrow's game - the first of two Festival games they wil play in Great Britain. And Dr Schwarzl, still struggling with his English, expressed his gratitude to Mr Blenkinsop and Leeds United for the generous arrangements made for their comfort.

United to name side tomorrow Evening Post Sports Reporter

Leeds United will not choose their team to meet Vienna Rapid, their first Festival of Britain visitors, tomorrow evening (7pm) until tomorrow morning.

They are awaiting fitness reports on Iggleden (cut eye and bruised knee) and Stevenson (wrenched back), their inside forwards, who were hurt in their last League game with Swansea on Saturday. Rapid, who visited a Leeds wholesale clothing factory this morning trained at Elland Road this afternoon.

By TOM HOLLEY

Ray Iggleden, recovered from his eye injury, returns at inside right for Leeds United's first Festival game with Rapid (Vienna), at Elland Road tonight (7 p.m.).

John Charles is again at centre-forward. Len Browning is feeling the effects of the recent stiff programme after his illness - there are still two more games to play before United leave for their tour of Eire - and Charlie Hughes is retained at inside left, where he did so well in the West Riding Cup game with Bradford City.

The team, is:- Searson; Dunn, Milburn; McCabe, Kirk, Burden; Harrison, Iggleden, Charles, Hughes, Williams.

The Rapid team and officials were given a civic reception at Leeds Town Hall today by the Lord Mayor, Ald. F.H. O'Donnell.

Both goals had narrow escapes at Elland Road, where Leeds United drew 2-2 with Rapid (Austria), when both sides tried hard for the winning goal in a thrilling finish. The Austrians had most of the opening play, but Leeds took the lead after seven minutes with a goal from Iggleden. In the fiftieth minute Rapid equalised through a penalty by Koerner, but in the next minute Hughes put Leeds ahead again only for Koerner to dash in from the wing and score for Austria.
